Veteran journalist and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring his decision to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu lamented the decline of democratic values within the PDP. He accused “anti-democratic forces” of hijacking the party from within and outside.
“My reason is simple and straightforward,” Momodu wrote. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked in broad daylight. It is, therefore, honourable to abandon the carcass of the party to them, while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”

Momodu’s move comes just days after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar also dumped the PDP for the ADC, signaling growing momentum behind a new opposition coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Speaking earlier in July on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Momodu had accused FCT Minister Nyesom Wike of working as a mole for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) within the PDP, alleging that Wike secretly supported the APC in the 2023 elections.
“People are leaving the carcass of PDP to Wike and his cronies. It was a prophecy foretold,” Momodu said.
He further alleged that the APC is deliberately infiltrating opposition parties with loyalists to weaken potential challengers before the next elections. “The ruling party does not want competition in 2027. They are sending moles into any major, formidable party,” he stated.
Momodu also criticized the Tinubu administration, claiming that the current economic and security conditions in Nigeria are worse than during former President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure. “Is this the Nigeria of your dreams?” he asked. “We are far worse off today.”
