A tragic incident occurred on Thursday at UBE Junior Secondary School, Oju Centre, in Oju Local Government Area of Benue State, where a 16-year-old student allegedly beat his teacher to death after he seized his cap, which led to a heated altercation.
The student, identified as Friday Ogamude, reportedly confronted his teacher, Mr. Oyibe Oyibe, aged 35, over a cap that had been seized by the teacher since May 2025. According to eyewitness accounts, the disagreement escalated quickly on the school premises, leading the student to allegedly strike the teacher during the confrontation.
The teacher, who reportedly collapsed immediately after the assault, was rushed to Amara Hospital in Oju, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. His body has since been deposited at the General Hospital, Oju, for autopsy.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama first broke the news on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), describing the incident as deeply disturbing and calling for swift justice.
The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspect and begun a full-scale investigation into the matter. In a statement, the police condemned the act, describing it as “unacceptable and shocking,” and assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to ensure that justice is served.
“The suspect is currently in our custody, and we are conducting an in-depth investigation to uncover the full details of what transpired,” the police said. “We urge the public to remain calm and allow the law to take its course.”
