An Igbo woman from Enugu State, Ekechi Chinenyenwa Rahamat, has addressed public backlash following her conversion to Islam and upcoming wedding to her Muslim fiancé, Barrister Muhammad Jaji from Plateau State.

Rahamat, a mother of three, took to Facebook to explain her life’s journey, revealing that her decision to embrace Islam and remarry came after surviving a painful period of trauma and depression.

She disclosed that her family, who rejected her conversion, would not be present at the wedding scheduled to take place on July 19, 2025, at Masjid Moh’d Nasir Jummat Mosque in Kaduna.

“People who don’t know my pain are the loudest with opinions. But I won’t let anyone dictate how I live,” she wrote. “I’ve been at my lowest, close to death, but I survived. Now I’m stronger, grateful, and finally at peace.”

She affirmed her decision with pride, writing, “Na Igbo I be. Na ISLAM I embrace. Na single mother I be. Based on circumstances beyond my control and in my quest for peace, I found Islam.”
