Five Manchester United stars—Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia—have informed the club that they want to leave this summer and have been excused from reporting for the start of pre-season training. Instead, they’ll get extra time until later in July to explore transfer opportunities.

United’s manager, Rúben Amorim, and the club have respected their wishes, delaying their return and providing access to Carrington’s medical and rehab facilities during this period. If any player still doesn’t find a new team, they’re expected to rejoin later sessions.

The most notable among them, a United academy product with 426 appearances and 138 goals, Rashford has worn the No. 10 shirt since 2018 and now saw his beloved No. 10 shirt assigned to new signing Matheus Cunha (£62.5m). Rashford has reportedly been unsettled and open to a fresh start after a disappointing 2024/25 season. Linked with a move to Barcelona, partly because Barça’s interest in Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams ended when Williams renewed his contract.

Alejandro Garnacho

The 19-year-old Argentine is said to have fallen out with manager Ruben Amorim and hinted at a possible exit after the club’s Europa League final loss. With 14 goals and 12 assists in 74 appearances for the team, Garnacho caused a stir when he was seen wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Rashford’s name while on holiday.

Jadon Sancho

Sancho spent last season on loan at Chelsea, helping them win the UEFA Conference League. Despite having an option to buy him for £25 million, Chelsea passed. He’s now being linked with clubs in Turkey and Italy, including Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce.

Antony

Signed for £82 million from Ajax, the Brazilian winger never quite lived up to expectations at Old Trafford. A loan spell at Real Betis saw a brief revival, and now he’s reportedly being targeted by Bayer Leverkusen under former boss Erik ten Hag.

Tyrell Malacia

The Dutch full-back has struggled with injuries and has made only 47 appearances since joining in 2022. After a loan stint at PSV Eindhoven, he is now exploring options to move on permanently.

United are undertaking a significant rebuild, with Cunha’s No. 10 acquisition and possible Bryan Mbeumo signing. This overhaul is part of financial balancing and fitting into Amorim’s vision after a poor 15th-place Premier League finish last season.
