President Tinubu has given the go-ahead to the military and security agencies to urgently tackle threats from terrorists, bandits, insurgents, and separatists. Speaking through Vice President Shettima at the closing ceremony of Army Day in Kaduna, he said they have full presidential backing to act decisively.
He told officers and soldiers, “The time to rise is now. You have my full authorization and the trust of the Nigerian people to confront and defeat those who seek to undermine our nation. You are my confidence, my support, and my prayers.”
Tinubu described these security challenges as “grave existential threats” that target everyone, regardless of faith or tribe, and said they must no longer be dismissed as minor disruptions. He assured the military of continued support, including funding for new weapons, better intelligence, and more personnel.
He also paid heartfelt tribute to fallen soldiers and injured veterans, promising their sacrifices “will not be shed in vain; their memory will endure through generations.”

Tinubu extended special recognition to military families and spouses, thanking them for their sacrifices and resilience on the home front.
“Their support sustains morale,” he said. “We have no other country but Nigeria. We must not mortgage our future to division, indifference, or delay.”
Army Chief Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede emphasized the importance of focusing on soldiers’ welfare as part of the army’s transformation efforts. He said troop motivation and professionalism are essential to national security and that the Army will continue working with the Navy, Air Force, and other agencies to deny criminals any foothold in the country.
The ceremony featured military parades, tactical demonstrations, and displays of modern weaponry. It was attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, diplomats, and residents of Kaduna. Among the guests were former Head of State Yakubu Gowon, Kaduna Governor Uba Sani, Defense Minister Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and other senior military leaders.
Tinubu summed up the day with a rallying cry: “Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and long live our Armed Forces.”
