VIDEO: Drama in Lagos as Suspected Hacker Hides Overnight in FCMB Bank Ceiling in Order to Hack the Bank's System

An incident occurred earlier today, leaving staff and customers at a First City Monument Bank (FCMB) branch in Lagos perplexed. A man was found hiding in the bank’s ceiling, allegedly attempting to hack into the bank’s systems overnight.

According to the report, the suspect entered the bank the previous day during business hours like a normal customer. He then reportedly locked himself inside the restroom and climbed into the ceiling undetected.

He remained there until the bank closed for the day, waiting for the bank to empty before emerging to carry out his mission.

The following morning, FCMB staff were puzzled to find one of the office doors locked from the inside. Suspecting something was wrong, they broke the door open and noticed, to their shock, a man in the ceiling of the bank.

The man had allegedly attempted to hack into the bank’s computer systems. The staff found out sooner when they tried to turn on their computers and the monitors displayed the prompts; “restarting, click ok to accept.”

In a now-viral video circulating on social media, the suspect is seen pleading for forgiveness after he was dragged down from atop the ceiling through a ladder to the floor and beaten by security personnel. He was begging to be allowed to explain.

A staff of the bank narrated the events thus:

“A customer entered our FCMB bank in Secretariat yesterday, went straight to the toilet and locked himself there, then climbed inside the ceiling. When he noticed that all the staffs had gone, he came down and tried to hack all the systems. He also locked himself inside. This morning when my colleagues arrived the office, they noticed the door was locked from inside. They had to break the door and go in, that’s when they noticed that someone was on top of the ceiling. Immediately they turned on their system, it started showing ‘restarting, click ok to accept’.”

While FCMB has not released an official statement regarding the incident, security operatives on site were seen detaining the suspect and preventing him from fleeing. The motive behind the attempted breach remains under investigation.
