In the early hours of Sunday, June 29, at a brothel in the Cathedral area of Akure, Ondo State, a commercial sex worker died following a heated altercation with a client.
According to the Ondo State Police Command, three men have been arrested in connection with the incident, which has stirred shock and concern among residents.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, explained that the disagreement began when the woman, mid-session, reportedly told her client that she felt unwell and could not continue. Angered, the man allegedly demanded a refund of ₦15,000 he had paid in advance.
Efforts by the brothel’s manager and others to mediate the situation proved unsuccessful. Not long after, the client allegedly returned with two other men, and the group attempted to forcibly retrieve the money from the woman. At that point, the brothel manager contacted the police.

Officers from the ‘A’ Division in Akure responded and arrived at the scene to find the trio still confronting the woman. By then, her health had significantly deteriorated.
She was rushed to a private hospital in the Lafe area, but due to the severity of her condition, she was referred to the Police Clinic, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body has since been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital for autopsy.
Three suspects were arrested at the scene, while police say they are on the trail of two more individuals connected to the incident.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case. He assured the public that a thorough investigation would be carried out and called on anyone with useful information to come forward.
