In a historic move aimed at easing economic pressure on Nigerians and modernizing the country’s tax system, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed four landmark tax reform bills into law.

According to a post on his social media channel, the newly signed bills mark the end of the era of “patchwork—complex, inequitable, and burdensome” tax that has “weighed down the vulnerable and shielded inefficiency.”

The four bills—Nigeria Tax Bill (Fair Taxation), Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill—are now law. Together, they aim to unify the country’s fragmented tax system, eliminate wasteful duplications, reduce bureaucratic red tape, and restore investor confidence.

The new laws introduce what Tinubu called “the first major, pro-people tax cuts in a generation,” with targeted relief for low-income earners, families, and small businesses. According to him, this is not just about reforming tax codes but about “rewriting the social contract.”

“We are laying the foundation for a tax regime that is fair, transparent, and fit for a modern, ambitious Nigeria,” Tinubu said during the official signing. “A tax regime that rewards enterprise, protects the vulnerable, and mobilizes revenue without punishing productivity.”

The President also praised the work of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reform Committee, the National Assembly, and state governments for their contributions to the process.

Although Tinubu emphasized that the signing marks a major milestone, he stressed that the reforms are only the beginning of deeper changes ahead.

“This is our rallying cry: Simplify. Reform. Grow. We are betting on a new Nigeria and building it block by block,” he concluded.

The administration hopes the reforms will not only relieve hardship but also signal to the world that Nigeria is open for fair and inclusive business.
