On Monday evening, Iran launched a volley of missiles targeting the U.S. Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar—the largest American military installation in the Middle East. The strike came in retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
Qatar’s defense ministry confirmed that its air defenses successfully intercepted most missiles before they could cause any damage. A Reuters source noted that Iran provided advance warning to Qatar and the U.S., resulting in no casualties or base damage. U.S. President Donald Trump, addressing the outcome, described the response as “very weak” but appreciated the warning for preventing loss of life.
Shortly after the attack, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani released a strong condemnation:

“The State of Qatar strongly condemns the attack that targeted Al-Udeid Air Base by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. We consider this a flagrant violation of the sovereignty of the State of Qatar… We affirm that Qatar reserves the right to respond directly in a manner equivalent with the nature and scale of this brazen aggression… No injuries or human casualties resulted from the attack.”
The Gulf state temporarily shut its airspace and evacuated the base ahead of the attack. The move drew regional alarm—neighboring Kuwait, Bahrain, and the UAE also closed their skies temporarily. Qatar warned that continued military moves like this would destabilize regional peace and called for diplomacy and negotiation.
On the wider stage, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated the strike was a response to U.S. aggression and warned Tehran remains ready to counter any further attacks.
Meanwhile, global powers—including France, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and the Gulf Cooperation Council—condemned the strike as a violation of sovereignty and urged de-escalation. The White House confirmed the incident and said President Trump convened national security officials in the Situation Room amid the crisis.
