VeryDarkMan Stages Protest with Public School Pupils at FCT Minister's Office Amid Long Strike by Teachers Over Government's Refusal to Pay N70,000 Minimum Wage

Activist and socialite Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, on Monday took some public school pupils to protest at the gate of the FCT minister Nyesom Wike’s office over teachers’ strike and the government’s refusal to settle their demands.

Public primary school teachers in Abuja have been on strike for the past nine weeks over the government’s failure to pay the N70,000 minimum wage that was approved since last year. This means public primary school pupils have been home for the past two months.

VeryDarkMan took some of the students out to the FCT minister’s office to demonstrate that they are tired of staying at home and that the government must address the demands of their teachers.

VeryDarkMan wore a school uniform alongside the students while he had a mock class, teaching the pupils words of the alphabet. However, the words for each of the letters of the alphabet were coined to represent Nigeria’s situation and politicians. For instance, C stood for Corruption, T for Tinubu, W for Wike, E for embezzlement, and so on.

Explaining to the pupils, VDM said the politicians do not care about them not going to school because they have their own children in expensive private schools and overseas, the irony being that they are using the same public funds to fund their own children’s smooth education.

VDM also mentioned that the government has enough money to pay the teachers, seeing how much they expend on the renovation of structures, building of roads, and buying fleets of cars.

During the protest, VDM also brought packs of food, shared among the children, as they all sat on the floor of the roadside together to eat.

Lots of Nigerians have commended VeryDarkMan for taking such action, while some feel it is unnecessary.
