The Rivers State Police Command has opened an investigation into the assault and alleged forced resignation of Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor, Sole Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Saturday, June 22, the police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed that on June 20, around 1:40 p.m., a group of about 30 men stormed the Ahoada-East Council Secretariat. The attackers, reportedly led by Hector Ekakita—believed to be the Chief Security Officer and Chief of Staff to the Sole Administrator—allegedly assaulted Iheanachor and forced him to sign a resignation letter under duress.
“During the attack, the hoodlums assaulted the Sole Administrator, stole his mobile phones, forced him to sign a letter purporting his resignation, and carted away vital documents, both official and personal,” the statement read. “The Administrator is currently receiving medical care for injuries sustained and is in stable condition.”

SP Iringe-Koko added that the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, visited the scene with heads of other security agencies. Following the visit, the CP directed all those involved—including the CSO and COS—to report to the State Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt for questioning.
“The command is committed to justice and warns that failure to comply with this invitation will result in serious consequences,” the spokesperson warned.
Meanwhile, Hon. Iheanachor has publicly denied claims that he voluntarily resigned. According to him, he was beaten and coerced into signing a resignation letter that had already been prepared.
