The Enugu State chapter of the Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has called for the immediate resignation of Governor Peter Mbah over his alleged failure to protect residents from continuous attacks by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
This call comes in the wake of renewed violence in Eha-Amufu, a border community between Enugu and Benue State, where several villagers—including children—were reportedly slaughtered, and many others remain missing.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by its chairman, Mazi David Ani, the youth body expressed outrage over what it termed “government complicity” in the killings. They also cited previous attacks in Isi-Uzo and Uzo-Uwani Local Government Areas as signs of a worsening security breakdown.

“The primary responsibility of any government is to protect the lives and property of its citizens,” Ani said. “Governor Mbah’s administration has failed to ensure the safety of Enugu State citizens. Resignation is the most honorable course of action.”
OYC also cited advice by the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS) on lawful self-defense and announced plans to initiate community self-defense training programs. They warned that if the attacks continue, they will organize mass protests demanding Mbah’s resignation.
“The people of Enugu State deserve a government that prioritizes their safety and well-being,” the group stated. “The state is teetering on the edge of chaos.”
They further urged the state and federal government to take immediate and decisive steps to secure vulnerable communities before the situation spirals beyond control. According to the OYC, the international community is watching, and the crisis in Enugu has become a reflection of Nigeria’s broader governance and security failures.
