Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned Israel’s June 13 airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear installations, describing them as a perilous escalation in regional hostilities.
Spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa expressed “grave concern” over the unfolding military exchanges and urged both nations to “exercise utmost restraint in the interest of regional and global peace.”
Nigeria warned that the ongoing cycle of retaliation threatens civilian lives and risks destabilizing the wider Middle East, with possible repercussions for international security and economic stability.

The government reaffirmed its commitment to resolving conflicts diplomatically, noting that “military action is not a substitute for negotiation” and calling on both the UN Security Council and world leaders to intensify efforts toward de-escalation.
In its plea to the United Nations, Nigeria urged the Security Council to act swiftly to prevent further violence and provide a platform for constructive dialogue. Ebienfa announced that Nigeria “stands ready to support all genuine efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and promoting peace in the region.”
The strikes, which reportedly targeted around 100 sites, including Iran’s nuclear facilities and military command structures, resulted in the deaths of senior officials such as IRGC commander Hossein Salami and the armed forces’ chief Mohammad Bagheri.
Iran has responded with ballistic missile barrages over Israeli territory and promised a serious counterattack. The situation has sparked global concern, with international calls for restraint and a UN emergency session convened to address the escalating crisis.
