Nigeria has been ranked third among the top ten manufacturing countries in Africa, according to a recent report by The African Exponent, a platform known for delivering strategic business insights across the continent.
The report highlights the countries currently setting the pace in industrial growth and hosting some of the largest and most influential manufacturing firms in Africa. Leading the list are South Africa, Egypt, and Nigeria—recognized for their expansive industrial capacity, infrastructure, and economic impact.
South Africa, topping the list, is considered Africa’s most industrialized economy. With a diversified base in automotive, chemicals, steel, and food processing, the country benefits from strong global partnerships and advanced infrastructure.
Egypt ranks second due to its robust manufacturing exports to Europe and the Middle East. Its strength lies in the chemical, pharmaceutical, cement, and textile sectors—supported by recent industrial reforms and economic diversification.

Nigeria, ranked third, is home to some of Africa’s largest industrial conglomerates, including Dangote Group, BUA Group, Nestlé Nigeria, and Unilever Nigeria. The country’s key sectors include cement, consumer goods, food and beverages, and oil refining. Projects like the Dangote Refinery and BUA’s ongoing expansion highlight Nigeria’s commitment to industrialization, supported by a large domestic market and recent policy reforms.
The manufacturing sector in Africa is projected to achieve a value-added output of $77.66 billion and a total output of $284.70 billion by the end of 2025.
Rounding out the top ten are Morocco, Kenya, Algeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Tunisia, and Zambia. These countries have made strides in specialized sectors such as agro-processing, automotive assembly, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and textiles.
The report emphasizes the role of government support, foreign investment, and infrastructure in driving manufacturing growth across Africa. With Nigeria solidifying its position among the top three, the country is expected to play a major role in shaping Africa’s industrial future.
