The Federal Government has announced plans to sell 753 housing units confiscated from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele to Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme.
The estate is located in Abuja’s Lokogoma District and spans over 150,000 square metres. The estate was recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following a court-ordered forfeiture in December 2024.
On May 20, 2025, the EFCC officially handed over the property to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Minister Ahmed Dangiwa stated that the units would be offered to low- and middle-income Nigerians through the Renewed Hope Portal, with flexible payment options such as mortgage, installment plans, and rent-to-own schemes.

Before the sale, structural and safety assessments will be conducted, as the estate has deteriorated since construction halted in July 2023. Reports indicate that the estate is currently overgrown and in need of significant rehabilitation.
The move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to convert recovered assets for public benefit. The EFCC described the estate as its largest single asset recovery since its inception in 2003.
Emefiele had attempted to reclaim the estate in April 2025, arguing that he was not properly informed about the forfeiture proceedings. However, the Federal Capital Territory High Court dismissed his application, affirming the estate’s permanent forfeiture to the government.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development will complete the necessary assessments and infrastructure before offering the units for sale. Interested Nigerians can apply through the Renewed Hope Portal once the properties are ready.
