Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has called on former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, to join hands with President Bola Tinubu to accelerate development in the South-East. Umahi made this appeal during a feature interview for a State House documentary marking Tinubu’s second year in office.
According to a statement by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, Umahi said all South-East governors, regardless of party affiliation, are already supporting Tinubu, citing unprecedented federal presence in the region.
“In the past, we cried about marginalization,” Umahi said. “But today, we have several ongoing federal projects in Ebonyi and other states. The Second Niger Bridge is funded, and roads linking Port Harcourt, Enugu, Abakaliki, Onitsha, and Owerri are underway.”

Umahi stressed that unity and collaboration are key for progress, urging Obi to participate in a planned regional summit to formally endorse Tinubu for the 2027 elections.
“Leadership is about the people,” he said. “If someone is doing what you would have done for your people, support him.”
On infrastructure, Umahi reported that 80% of Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is complete and will be tolled by December. He described the project as more than a road—“an economic corridor” with modern features like solar lights and CCTV.
He also highlighted progress on the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and Trans-Saharan Trade Route, praising Tinubu’s vision in reviving long-abandoned projects.
“These developments are not only strategic but sustainable, reflecting a deep commitment to Nigeria’s economic future,” Umahi said.
