Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reportedly offered Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, a vice-presidential slot in a proposed alliance for the 2027 elections. Under the proposed arrangement, Atiku would run for president with Obi as his running mate, pledging to serve only one term before handing over power—potentially positioning Obi as his successor.
According to The Punch, the offer was made earlier this year during a private meeting between the two political figures in the United Kingdom. Sources familiar with the discussion revealed that Obi has shown interest in the offer but is still in consultations with his political allies and supporters before making a formal commitment.
If the deal materializes, it would mark a political reunion between Atiku and Obi, who both ran on the same ticket in the 2019 general elections under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In March 2025, Atiku, Obi, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other prominent figures reportedly met to initiate an opposition coalition aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu.
Though the coalition has been publicly acknowledged, its structure remains fluid. Discussions continue behind closed doors as stakeholders seek to consolidate a strong political alliance before formal campaign activities begin.
