There was tragedy at Odogunyan community in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Monday, May 12, 2025, when 19-year-old Timilehin Faith Opesusi took her own life following the release of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
She reportedly swallowed rodent poison in anger over scoring 190—less than she had the year before. Timilehin, who had enrolled for microbiology, had gone to her sister’s office for palm oil in a bid to relieve the effects of the poison. Her sister alerted people, and she was rushed to Kolak Hospital, where she confessed to taking poison.
Unfortunately, she passed away soon afterwards. Alas, 30 minutes later, a provisional admission letter arrived via her Gmail account after her death.

Family sources verified the horrific chain of events. Her parents, upon hearing the news, traveled to Ikorodu and took her body back home for burial in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
This tragedy is a copycat of the same kind of cases, such as that of a 46-year-old man in Osun State who killed himself over marriage pressure.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has previously responded to hysterics regarding issues with UTME by asking affected candidates to seek help while maintaining that issues during the examination are not the end of the world.
