Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has once again declared his loyalty to Peter Obi, saying he remains his preferred choice for president—should Obi choose to run in 2027.
Speaking during Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Farotimi made it clear that with Nigeria’s current realities, early political calculations should not distract citizens from pressing national issues.
“If we had a credible election today, and the same candidates from the last cycle were running, I would again vote for Peter Obi,” he said.

He added that only someone with stronger values and a more upright moral standing could make him reconsider his support—but he doesn’t see that happening anytime soon.
“I’d only change my mind if Obi aligns himself with people I cannot in good conscience support,” he explained. “Outside of that, I still see him as the most capable and trustworthy among the available options.”
While he hopes to see more clarity and firmness in Obi’s policy direction going forward, Farotimi noted that his support for the former Anambra governor is grounded in conviction, not emotion.
He ended with a reminder that Nigeria’s problems are too critical for citizens to get carried away with political speculation.
