At least eight passengers were killed and some others seriously injured when a vehicle traveling from Rann in Kala-Balge to Gamboru-Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State hit an improvised explosive device (IED) said to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists.
The deadly incident occurred on Monday and involved a vehicle carrying at least ten passengers.
The explosion was also corroborated by Borno State Police Command spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso, who added that investigation and compilation of facts were ongoing. “I know it happened. Please, I will call you back. I am still collating necessary information,” he told PUNCH.
Local witnesses of the attack attested that among the casualties were women and children, pointing to the gruesome effect the attack had on civilians.

One of the sources, who requested not to be named, indicated that eight people died at the site of the attack while several others were severely injured.
The attack came two days after Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum disclosed that the state had received over 300,000 “repentant Boko Haram members” within the past three years.
He made the revelation when the Minister of Defence, Badaru Abubakar, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and other senior military officers visited him.
Governor Zulum expressed concern that insurgents of the Boko Haram group were regrouping in areas ranging from Lake Chad to the Mandara Hills, within the Sambisa Forest.
He appreciated the efforts of the military but noted the need for both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to address lingering security challenges.
The governor also noted the workload on the Nigerian Army, remarking that they were deployed in most of the conflict zones across the country, and asked for additional manpower and support to fight the re-emerging terrorist threat in the Northeast.
