The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has served Abuja residents and prospective buyers of houses with a new notice. The warning by the anti-corruption organization followed the arrest of a suspected fraudulent land vendor, Nwobo Williams Chibuike.
Chibuike, who, according to EFCC, operated with several aliases and company names, including C&C Reality & Construction Limited, Dream-Krest Homes and Properties Limited, and Dan Faith Shelters Limited, was arrested for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting members of the public in the sale of non-existent plots of land across various locations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The EFCC, in a statement issued on Wednesday, stated that its investigations revealed that Chibuike claimed to own properties in areas such as Kurudu, Sabon Lugbe East Extension, Kpeyegyi, and Jikoyi Village Extension.

But the issues raised by the anti-graft agency at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) confirmed that the said plots do not exist. The victims reportedly paid between N3.5 million and N60 million for non-existent land in prime areas such as Karsana, Pyakasa, Jikwoyi, Katampe Extension, Guzape 2, and Kuje.
EFCC stated that Chibuike posed as the Managing Director of his bogus real estate companies and swindled his victims with fraudulent documents and false assertions of valid title. “The suspect would be arraigned in court after investigations are concluded,” the commission confirmed in the statement.
As the trend of land fraud continues to emerge, the EFCC also warned the public to exercise caution when dealing with land dealers, particularly such itinerant agents within and around the FCT.
The commission directed prospective purchasers to verify all documents of land with relevant authorities before any money is transacted.
