The Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, has requested security agents to arrest anyone who is spotted with dreadlocks in Minna, the state capital.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ security parley held at the Government House on Tuesday, the governor said such a person’s hair should be cut and they should be fined. “We will exercise zero tolerance for rascality,” he said.
“Anyone whom you can lay your hands on with dreadlocks, arrest, barb the hair, and fine him. Nobody should bring any kind of haircut to Minna. I have given marching orders to security agencies,” he asserted.

Security agents and traditional rulers were present at the meeting. He implored parents to advise their children and said that the government would begin implementing stringent security measures. “Parents need to warn their children. From now on, it is 100% fire-for-fire. Also, any house found hosting criminals needs to be dismantled. Niger State is not for waste characters,” Bago added.
He also imposed a restriction on the movement of commercial motorbikes and tricycles between 6pm and 6am in Minna, stating that only those for medical emergencies would be exempted.”
The governor also directed local leaders, including district, village, and ward heads, to record the residents of their areas.
He added that any structure that will be used in sheltering criminals or for dealing in illegal drugs will be torched.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have reacted to the order, condemning the governor for such an order, claiming it’s a misplaced priority. Nigerian youths have argued that dreadlocks are just fashion, and has nothing to do with immorality and corruption in the country.
