Presidency Approves N10 billion Budget for Solar Installation in Aso Rock

The presidency has begun plans to switch to the use of solar in the presidential villa (Aso Rock) due to the rise in electricity bills and inadequate supply of power.

According to reports, N10 billion has been approved as part of the 2025 budget allocations for the “Solarization of the Villa with Solar Mini Grid” project.

The purpose of the project is to reduce dependency on National grid which has become unreliable in recent times, and also the rising cost of tariffs.

It is revealed that the Presidential Villa was among the top debtors of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, with a debt of N923.87 million accumulated from 2023 to 2024.

Part of the debt in the sum of N316.88 million was settled in October 2024 as ordered by President Tinubu, after a recommendation revision to N342.35 million.

N311.09 million has been approved for the 2025 electricity bill for the Presidential Villa, with a N57.11 billion capital expenditure approved for the year 2025 to cover capital projects, including maintenance of the Villa, settlement of contractor debts, infrastructure upgrades, and property renovations.

The solar project, if completed successfully, would reduce dependency on electricity supply, which only amounts to 20 hours for Band A, as the Presidential Villa requires 24 hours of electricity.
