Still on the case of poor security in the country, bandits have gunned down a herdsman and kidnapped a final-year university student.
A student of a federal university in Kebbi, Augustine Madubiya, a 400-level economic student, was abducted by suspected bandits who had gotten into an off-campus hostel in Kalgo Local Government Area of Kebbi.
The incident was reported to have occurred around 3a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, when five men armed to the teeth stormed the hostel, known as Istijaba Villa, located in Unguwar Jeji.

The bandits decided to extort money from students and assaulted every one of them, as most kept saying they had no money. During a commotion, a neighbor, Mallam Siddi Hussaini, who came to see what was happening, was shot dead, and while some students escaped, they took Madubiya captive.
As a result, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Jamilu Magaji, who confirmed the incident, stated that the vice chancellor, Muhammad Zaiyan-Umar, had addressed the students, reaffirming the university’s commitment to ensuring their safety.
The vice chancellor also communicated the incident to Governor Nasir Idris and expressed gratitude to the local community for its support. The university authorities have demanded further assistance from the government and security agencies to ensure the abducted student is rescued.
This incident still adds up to the unsettling security challenges faced by students in Nigerian universities.
