The tragic event occurred on the eve of March 11. The couple involved, Chiedozie and Joan, were caught up in the explosion just two weeks after their wedding.
Although there has been an outcry for stricter road safety measures and maintenance standards for tankers and heavy-duty vehicles, the maintenance of these vehicles should be the first priority.
Notwithstanding, the drivers of these vehicles also need to prioritize the safety of human lives, including their own, and not ignore warning signs indicating potential problems with their vehicles.

According to PUNCH, the explosion at Otedola Bridge, Lagos State, which claimed several lives, burned 18 vehicles, and left many injured, occurred when a 30-tonne gas tanker loaded with petroleum suffered brake failure and crashed into a minibus, eventually leading to the disaster. An eyewitness who saw everything attested to the vehicle losing its brakes before setting the area ablaze.
However, for the Okoye family, the disaster was an unimaginable loss. Chiedozie, who had just resumed work that Tuesday, was on his way to pick up his wife when their lives were tragically cut short.
Their family members were later able to identify their charred remains at Yaba’s mortuary using their vehicle registration number. This has left the Okoye family, as well as Chiedozie and his wife’s families, devastated.
