On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics said that its co-chief executive officer, Han Jong-hee, has died due to cardiac arrest at 63.
Han Jong-hee was in charge of Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile devices division, while co-CEO Jun Young-hyun oversaw the chip business of South Korea’s biggest company.
However, on Tuesday, Han Jong-hee passed away at a hospital while he was being treated for cardiac arrest. This was revealed by the company’s spokesperson, who later added that a successor hasn’t been decided.
The South Korean firm had been suffering from weak earnings after falling behind rivals in regards to advanced memory chips and contract chip manufacturing; they’ve eventually lost their smartphone market crown to Apple.

Han Jong-hee joined Samsung Electronics nearly 40 years ago, but he built his career in the TV business before that.
He became vice-chair and CEO of Samsung Electronics in 2022. He was also one of the company’s board members.
He directed Samsung’s shareholder meeting last week, where he and other executives were put in a tight spot by shareholders after the company’s failure to ride an AI boom made it one of the worst-performing tech stocks last year.
Han was scheduled to attend Samsung’s launch event for new home appliances on Wednesday, March 26, 2025; however, death took him away.
He was a man who was interested in improving people’s lives through technological advancement.
