BREAKING: Reps Propose Bill to Ban Civil Servants From Using Private Schools, Private Hospitals

A bill introduced and sponsored by Rivers State legislator Rt. Hon. Solomon Bob to remove the immunity granted to vice presidents, governors, and their deputies passes for a second reading in the lower chambers.

Section 308 of the Nigerian constitution had given protection to the vice president, governors, and their deputies against criminal and civil prosecutions. Hence, barring corrupt office holders from being investigated.

However, with this bill, if successfully passed into law, section 308 of the constitution would be amended so that the vice president, governors, and their deputies would not escape criminal probing.

This bill therefore aims to make leaders more accountable, seeking to ensure transparency in governance for public office holders.

The bill is part of several other bills that have passed first reading and been approved for second reading.

Other bills including, local government autonomy and funding, a bill to include traditional rulers in advisory role in governance, bill to create a State In the Southeastern region, etc.
