Former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi was present at the God’swill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, alongside the governor of Lagos, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and the host governor, the governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno.
Others present were Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Alhaji Shehu Dikko, Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olapade, and Chairman of the Nigerian Football Federation Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau.
They all came to support and show solidarity to the Super Eagles of Nigeria against the Warriors of Zimbabwe for the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
Though the match ended in a disappointing draw, the politicians were seen in an exuberant mood at the VIP stands in one of Africa’s most magnificent stadia.

After a goalless 70 minutes, Victor Osimhen found the net with his head, giving Nigeria a lead ahead of Zimbabwe, who struggled under pressure from the Super Eagles, and went from fourth to second on the Group C table below South Africa.
A few minutes to stoppage time after Osimhen was substituted for Boniface, the weaker Zimbabwe made their way in an unbelievable style to the net, putting Nigeria’s hope for the 2026 World Cup in doubt, as they fell back to fourth position again.
