A city in China, known as Hothot, a capital of Inner Mongolia, has begun giving out several incentives, ranging from cash to dairy products, for newborn babies delivered from the month of March, 2025.
This is done to help boost the country’s declining birthrate. To encourage citizens and couples to give birth. It is on record that most Chinese young citizens have refused to marry, while the ones that are married do not want to reproduce.
Many of them fear the cost that comes with nurturing and raising children. This, however, has negatively impacted the country’s birthrate.
China, which used to have the world’s largest population, has now been surpassed by India, due to the country’s earlier birth control policies, restricting childbearing to one per every family.

The country, now facing a new challenge of population decline, lifted the birth control policy, but the citizens are no longer interested in raising children, hence the government’s offers, to encourage childbearing.
Many healthcare institutions have incorporated childbirth subsidies, so that nursing mothers and the newborn babies would have access to them unhinged.
Below are the incentives offered by the city of Hothot:
- First child: A one-time payment of 10,000 Yuan ($1,382.51)
- Second child: An annual subsidy of 10,000 Yuan until the child turns five
- Third child: An annual subsidy of 10,000 Yuan until the child turns ten
Hothot has also made incentives for nursing mothers with the launch of the “One Cup of Milk Fertility Care Action” scheme, where mothers who gave birth from March 1 are entitled to a cup of milk every day.
The mothers also get to receive electronic vouchers worth 3000 Yuan, redeemable with two major dairy companies—Yili and China Mengniu Dairy.
These incentives are more than the annual earnings of a local Chinese; hence, they are very ample for one to not consider.
Meanwhile, China’s current population is 1,419,321,278, with a -0.23 per cent yearly decline.
