The 10th Senate has suspended the senator representing Kogi Central, senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, for her violation of the Senate standing rules 2023 and brought the senate presiding officer and the entire senate to the “public opprobrium.”
In today’s plenary, Senator Natasha resubmitted a petition to the senate after the first, which she submitted on Tuesday, was rejected because it carried her signature.
After reading her petition, signed by a constituent of Kogi by name Zubairu Yakubu, against the Senate president for sexual harassment and abuse of power, the President of the Senate approved it for review in the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, led by Senator Neda Imasuen of Edo South, with a directive to report back to the plenary within four weeks.
Despite her petition, an agreement reached by the Senate’s Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions was read out.

- In the first prayer was the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months, which the house unanimously agreed by saying “Hi” after the Senate President asked the question.
- In the second prayer, for her suspension to be lifted or reduced, Senator Natasha must submit a written apology to the Senate before any reconsideration.
- In the third prayer, the Senate’s suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is with effect from 6th March 2025.
- In four, that her office be locked for the duration of her suspension, and all Senate property in her possession be handed over.
- In prayer five, that for the duration of her suspension, she must not come close to or be seen within the vicinity of the National Assembly building or even her staff.
- In prayer six, that her salaries and allowances, including those of her legislative aides, be suspended, and withdrawal of all security details for the duration of her suspension.
- And the seventh is that she is barred from representing herself locally and internationally as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, before leaving the plenary in defiance, said the injustice against her will not be sustained.
