UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has dismissed Tory leader Kemi Badenoch’s assertion that he acted on her advice to cut the aid budget, calling her remarks a “desperate search for relevance.”
In Parliament, Badenoch claimed, “Over the weekend, I suggested to the prime minister that he cut the aid budget, and I am pleased that he accepted my advice.”

She also questioned discrepancies in the government’s defence spending figures.
Starmer responded sharply, “I’m going to have to let the leader of the opposition down gently. She didn’t feature in my thinking at all… She’s appointed herself the saviour of Western civilisation.”
He clarified that the UK’s defence budget would increase by £13.4 billion, marking the largest sustained rise in military spending since the Cold War.
