The Delta State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing officers allegedly assaulting and shooting at the Student Union Government (SUG) President of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Eruru Christian, over a reported N500 ‘settlement’ demand.
The incident was brought to public attention by an X user, @ChuksEricE, who claimed that police officers had approached the SUG president and requested a bribe. When he refused, they allegedly reacted with aggression.
In one of the videos, Eruru Christian is heard accusing the officers of slapping him because he refused to pay.
“You slapped me because I refused to settle you. You will see what you have never seen before. Ogwashi-Uku divisional police slapped me because I refused to give them N500,” he stated.

Another clip captures a policeman firing a shot into the air as the SUG president calls them “criminals” and accuses them of trying to intimidate him.
Reacting to the controversy, Delta State Police spokesperson SP Edafe Bright confirmed that an investigation is underway and that the officer accused of assault has been detained.
However, he also urged restraint, stating that while the allegations are being looked into, the hostile reaction of the SUG president towards the police, who were deployed to address kidnapping concerns in the area, should also be discouraged.
“The allegations of demanding N500 are being investigated, as well as the claim that they assaulted him. The officer is currently in detention. However, the SUG president’s actions, including calling the police ‘criminals and thieves’ even after they left, should also not be encouraged,” Bright stated.
The incident has sparked widespread debate, with many calling for transparency in the investigation and justice for any misconduct.
