Delta Air Lines has pledged to compensate each passenger with $30,000 following a crash landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport earlier this week, the airline confirmed on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Delta emphasized that this financial compensation is a goodwill gesture and does not impact passengers’ legal rights to pursue further claims.
The incident occurred on Monday when a Delta flight from Minneapolis, Minnesota, experienced a severe landing at Toronto’s main airport.
The aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ-900, hit the runway forcefully before flipping over, coming to rest upside down. The impact caused a fireball and thick black smoke, but miraculously, all 80 people on board survived.

According to Delta, 21 passengers sustained injuries, with only one still hospitalized as of Wednesday morning. Emergency responders treated a range of conditions, including back sprains, head injuries, anxiety, and headaches.
Video footage of the crash, widely shared on social media and verified by AFP, captured the aircraft’s dramatic descent, its violent impact with the runway, and the subsequent skidding that tore off its wings before it came to a stop.
In response to the crash, Canada’s Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation, supported by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Delta, and Mitsubishi—the company that took over the Bombardier CRJ aircraft line in 2019.
Authorities continue to analyze the circumstances surrounding the Delta crash to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences.
