Katsina Governor Launches ₦5.7 Billion Goat Rearing Programme to Boost Livestock Production and Women’s Empowerment
Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has launched the distribution of 40,000 goats under the Goat Rearing Initiative Programme, a ₦5.7 billion project aimed at boosting livestock production and empowering women economically.
The initiative, executed through the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Community Level Committees, seeks to provide local farmers, particularly women, with essential resources, training, and financial support to enhance goat rearing.
Speaking at the launch in Dan-Nakola, Daura Local Government Area, Governor Radda emphasized the programme’s focus on livestock nutrition, health management, and sustainable farming techniques to ensure long-term success.

Programme Details:
- Beneficiaries: 10 women and one large-scale farmer from each of the 361 political wards in the state.
- Support Package:
– Each woman will receive four goats (one male and three females).
– Each large-scale farmer will receive 50 goats. - Repayment Model: Beneficiaries are expected to return an equal number of goats after a set period to sustain the programme.
Governor Radda also announced plans to establish a goat farm in Rimi Local Government to support genetic improvement, increase milk production, and enhance manure supply.
The facility will serve as a breeding hub, training centre, and animal husbandry resource to further develop livestock farming in the state.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hon. Hadiza Yar’adua, and the Special Adviser on Livestock and Grazing Reserves, Yusuf Jibia, hailed the programme as a significant intervention for economic growth and sustainable livelihoods.
This initiative positions Katsina as a leading hub for livestock production while empowering women to actively participate in the agricultural economy.
