Tragedy struck in Ilorin as a final-year student of Kwara State College of Education, Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, was found brutally murdered and dismembered in the home of an Islamic cleric, Abdulrahman Mohad Ballo, whom she had reportedly met on Facebook.
According to sources, Yetunde had been communicating with the suspect online before he lured her to his residence under false pretenses.
After her disappearance on February 10, 2025, her family and friends launched a frantic search, which ultimately led to the suspect’s arrest.
Eyewitnesses say Yetunde was last seen at a naming ceremony, where she received a phone call and stepped aside, never to return.
Concerned relatives reported her missing at Oja-Oba Police Station the following day, prompting authorities to track her last known communication. This led them to Ballo’s residence in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin.

Initially, the suspect denied any involvement, claiming that Yetunde had visited him but suffered a sudden asthma attack.
However, further investigation uncovered a gruesome scene—her dismembered remains were found inside a bowl, alongside ritual paraphernalia.
Authorities believe the killing may not have been an isolated incident, as they discovered other disturbing items suggesting a possible history of ritualistic activities.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated:
“On February 11, 2025, at approximately 1800 hours, a report of a missing person was filed by her father, Mr. Ibrahim A. Lawal. Following an extensive investigation, we arrested a suspect who later confessed to having contact with the victim.”
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, with authorities vowing to ensure justice for Yetunde and her grieving family.
