The media head of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Dele Oyewale, on Monday, February 10, 2025, revealed that most of the people that dress like EFCC and break into people’s homes are not EFCC operatives.
He made this known during a session with some journalists. Oyewale explained that most of the videos that have been circulating online, with people wearing EFCC-like attires, caps, etc., are fake.
The media head said those people do what they do to discredit the EFCC and their efforts, even though the commission has, on several occasions, condemned the acts publicly with several press statements.

“… it is not all of these cases where you have people breaking in, you know, all these… most times, they are not EFCC officers, I am telling you.
“I have had concept rally to say that, some of these kits that you see online, you see people wearing heavy cap, wearing all these funny things, no, that’s not EFCC, I’m telling you.
“But people do that to discredit us, and we have been shouting and shouting. I can’t recollect how many press statements I have written to say that all of these people are not EFCC. They are not from us.
Mr Oyewale advised that if someone comes and claim they are EFCC, you should ask him to “establish his identity.” Pointing out that Nigerians do not know how to interrogate.
His submission was met with loud murmurs and dissatisfaction.
