The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a trader, Onu Simeon, following a confrontation that resulted in the death of his colleague, Ifeanyi Chukwu, at Utako Market, Abuja, on February 5.
According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the police received a distress call at approximately 9:30 a.m. regarding a fight at the market.
Officers responded promptly and found Ifeanyi Chukwu lying unconscious. He was immediately rushed to NNPC Hospital, Utako, where a medical doctor later confirmed his death.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the dispute stemmed from a disagreement over a space to display goods for sale.

The argument between Onu Simeon, a resident of Anguwan Biggy, Jabi Daki Biyu, and Ifeanyi Chukwu, from Kuchigoro, Lugbe, escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Chukwu suddenly collapsed.
His remains have been deposited at a general hospital for further examination, while Onu Simeon is currently in police custody as investigations continue. The police assured that further updates will be provided in due course.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, has urged residents to seek peaceful resolutions to disputes, emphasizing that violence often leads to tragic and unintended consequences.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining law and order across the territory.
