On Friday night January 10, a food market in Osun State was caught in flames and millions of food items destroyed, reports the Vanguard.
The market popularly known as Akinola market, located at Ipetumodu, the headquarters of the Ife-North local government area of Osun State, was left in ruins, with food items worth millions of Naira destroyed alongside.
According to the report, the fire was caused by some traders who did after-sales-burning and left without putting out the fire.
The fire is said to have started at the section where Yams were being sold, and spred out to other parts of the market.

The next day being Saturday, traders came around to grief their losses while people also came to sympathize with the traders whose god’s were destroyed by the fire.
The incident has been confirmed by the Spokesperson, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Osun State, Kehinde Adeleke, who explained how the fire happened.
“Preliminary findings showed that the was as a result of dirt set on fire by shop owners after the day’s business. But they did not put out the fire before leaving the market at night.
“Food commodities worth millions of Naira were destroyed in the incident”, Adeleke said.
