Nigerian singer cum satirical skit maker Darlington Achakpo, popularly known as Speed Darlington and Akpi, has filed a lawsuit of N300 million against the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The lawsuit comes as a result of what the legal counsels of Speed Darlington term as wrongful detention of their client in the police custody without admittance to court, and a violation of his Fundamental Human Rights.

Igbo Tv earlier reported that Speed Darlington was granted a bail of N30 million on the December 23 by the Abuja Federal High Court, with order of immediate release from police custody, after he was rearrested and detained for alleged defamation of Grammy-Award winner Burna Boy.

However, since then, the police has refused to release Speed Darlington. It is said one of his lawyers, Abubakar Marshal’s filed the lawsuit few hours after the court mandated the police again to release the rapper, to which they refused.

January 13, 2025, has been scheduled by the Federal High Court to address Akpi’s Fundamental Rights enforcement suit against the IGP.

The court also granted a brief adjournment to allow the police’s lawyer, Garba Audu, time to review and respond to the documents served by Darlington’s lawyer, Abubakar Marshal.
