An unfortunate incidence has reportedly occurred in the Oroazi community of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
A gas cylinder exploded at a gas refilling shop, and got several persons numbering up to 18, including four children and a pregnant woman badly burnt.
The incident occurred at a place known as “Big Tree”. And the owner of the gas refilling shop who is also a welder was trying to refill gas in the refrigerator, before the explosion happened.
The sound triggered fear around the neighborhood, and before people could regain composure and run to the shop, fire had been razed.

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident, and said it has launched an investigation into the incident.
“Yes, I can confirm that the explosion was caused by a welder repairing a refrigerator.
“The technician was using a gas cylinder to weld while simultaneously trying to refill gas on the refrigerator which led to the explosion.
“No fewer than 18 persons, including the technician, sustained injuries but fortunately, no lives were lost,” the PPRO, SP Grace Iringe-Koko told the News Agency of Nigeria (NANS).
According to eyewitness, victims of the explosion are residents of the neighborhood and passersby.
