A lady who lives in Ajah, southeast of Lagos State, has taken to her social media page to share how her landlord increased her house rent in double fold, and was asked to pack put if she won’t pay.

The lady said she used to pay N750,000 for the one bedroom apartment she rented plus charges, however, as the new year came, her landlord’s lawyer served her a notice of rent increase of N1.4 million. That is almost an additional half of her former rentage.

The lady in the caption wrote: “He be like na Cana tell this our landlord make he increase house rent from 750 to 1.4…. Is this play godforbid Lagos landlord are thief Lol.”

“Please note that the rent of the apartment you occupy has been increased to the sum of N1,200.000.00 and service charge N200,000.00 per annum from your next rent renewal on December 2025. Inability to renew the tenancy at the current rate/rent, please vacate the property,” part of the letter states.

The post evoked debates online, concerning landlords in Nigeria, and how they increase rents arbitrary against what the constitution states about tenancy.

Many people agreed the increment is outrageous, that the landlord is inconsiderate, advising the lady to pack out of the house.
