Nigeria’s controversial musician, Darlington Achakpo popularly known as Speed Darlington and Akpi who was detained by the Nigerian police for an alleged defamation of Burna Boy was granted bail on December 23, 2024.

However, a recent post made by Comrade Deji Adeyanju, one of Akpi’s legal counsels on his X handle @adeyanjudeji says that the court ordered the Nigerian Police to release Akpi, yet they have refused to do so, despite being an explicit order from the court.

From the written document signed by the Abuja Federal High Court Adeyanju shared, the court declared that the continuous detention of Akpi is a violation of his right to dignity, personal liberty, freedom of expression and movement, and ordered that he must be released unconditionally within 48 hours, while his hearing is adjourned to January 6, 2025.

The letter was signed and released on December 23, 2024, and the 48 hours ultimatum given the Nigerian police to release Akpi has exceeded, yet they have refused to release the Nigerian rapper.

His legal counsel have taken to social media to disclose this development.

This problem raises concerns on the judicial instrumentality in the country, and how the enforcers contradict the rulings of the court.
