A Nigerian man has sparked a debate online as he claimed through his X handle that Igbo men of this generation started dying at an early age the moment they started sharing same room with their wives.
The claim was posted by the X user @OgbajiIfeanyi, and has gained a lot of attention on social media with many agreeing and disagreeing with his statement.
The man believes the reason Igbo men do not live long like the days of old, is because they have now adopted the Western lifestyle where husband and wife share one room, which was not usually so in the traditional Igbo setting.
The man blamed the Igbos for their nimbleness in adopting Western culture and lifestyle over theirs. Pointing out that, there was a reason their fathers had separate huts “mkpuke” from their wives, that a man’s room is sacred.

The post reads: “Woke Igbo men started dying early the moment they started sharing same room with their wives.
We are quick to adopt Western culture and lifestyles over ours. There was a reason our fathers had separate “mkpuke” from their wives.
A man’s room is sacred.”
Reacting to the post, @eljay_101_ said;
“A man is supposed to have his secret chamber. Where he can brood, pray and consult his maker. That is the way it should be. I will not share the same room with my wife. You’re free to sleep in my room as many times as you want but my room is my room. When I need to be on my own please respect my Privacy.”
