Multiples reports have confirmed multiple deaths and injuries in Okija, Anambra State, over the struggle for Christmas food items on Saturday December 21, 2024.

According to the reports, a prominent philanthropist and indigene of Anambra State identified as Chief Ernest Obiejesi a.k.a Obijackson in his usual manner had invited people in his community to come and receive Christmas palliatives.

Before the distribution would commence, the venue was already filled with crowd of people, which resulted in a stampede, claiming over 20 lives (though exact number unconfirmed) and leaving many injured.

An eye witness that confirmed the incident to Igbo Tv, explained that Obijackson has been doing this for years now, yet nothing like this has ever happened, which underscores the economic situation in the country, as people are truly starving because of inflation.

The reports says that most of the victims of the stampede are women. The injured have been rushed to the hospital for medical care, while the deceased were taken to the mortuary.

Similar sad occurrences have been reported by Igbo Tv today and earlier this week. One of such which occurred in Ibadan claiming the lives of 35 children, and that of Abuja which happened the same day with this, claiming 10 lives.

These tragic incidents all happened because of food. It shows that people are living below the standards of livelihood. A condition which the economy has thrown people into. Only the rich are able to afford adequate meals for themselves.
