Simon Ekpa who was arrested by the Finnish Government alongside four others for financing terrorism and inciting violence, is currently in one of the world’s toughest prisons in Finland, a report from The Punch says.
The high security prison referred as Kylmäkoski vankila (Kylmäkoski prison) located at Vanhamaantie, Akaa, in Finland, houses the toughest criminals, murderers and sex offenders.
According to The Punch, the Kylmäkoski vankila which was established in 1993 for male prisoners, currently contains 113 prisoners in closed doors, without permissions to go out, unlike other open prisons in Finland which allows prisoners to work, and hold the keys to their cells.
The Punch describes the prison from a 2023 Netflix documentary titled “Inside the World’s Toughest Prisons”, where a journalist by the name Raphael Rowe entered the prison wards and interviewed the inmates including the very dangerous and notorious criminals.

Recall that Igbo Tv had earlier reported that Simon Ekpa who is the Prime Minister of the Biafra Republic Government-in-Exile, was remanded by the Finnish authorities for promoting violence in the Southeastern part of Nigeria through his social media channels, and is to be prison until his trial in May 2025.
The Punch also reports that all his assets alongside his four accomplices have been frozen by the Finnish authorities.
It is to be noted that Simon Ekpa is being remanded, that is, deprived of the freedom of movement, which is a measure used for persons suspected of likely offences.
The purpose of remand imprisonment is to secure the criminal investigation, court proceedings, and enforcement of a sentence and to prevent the remanded person from continuing criminal activities, The Punch explains. And the remand must be in closely watched prisons.
