Ruben Amorim have broken the deadlock that held newly appointed Manchester United coaches on their first Manchester derby matches.

Since Alex Ferguson, Manchester United coaches have lost their first derby matches against Pep Guardiola, starting from David Moyes up till Eric Ten Hag.

The former Sporting CP manager made history on Sunday 15 December, 2024, by ending the first derby match losses to Pep.

It seems Amorim knows how to deal with Pep Guardiola. Looking back at some weeks ago, while still in Portugal with Sporting CP, he beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 4 – 1, facing him again in England with Manchester United, and taking the three points with a 2 – 1 comeback.

Both Manchester teams have been in poor form recently, with Manchester City losing eight out of 11 matches in all competitions, while the Reds side has been struggling to keep balance with their new coach.

Manchester City had the lead at Half Time when Gvardiol found the back of the net with his head from a Kevin Debruyne’s cross.

Guardiola’s side held the one goal lead at home until 88 minutes of game time, when Amad Diallo won a penalty by Matheus Nunes, which was executed by Bruno Fernandez to put the Red Devils at levels with the City boys.

Within two minutes of their equalizer, the Ivory Coast wonder boy, Amad stylishly found the back of the net from a Martinez cross, and gave the Reds a come back lead against their town rivals.

Amad Diallo was the Man of the Match, for his wonderful performance, scoring a 9/10 in match rating, according to Manchester Evening News.

The wonder boy has made an impression in the team, and have secured the right spot permanently for himself.

While Mason Mount took another injury early in the match, and had to be replaced by Kobbie Mainoo, Rashford was not present at the Etihad, and seems to have been watching from home, as a post from his social media handle confirms.

The Red side played adequately well, becoming more of a threat to the blue side who grew weaker, during the second half.

Manchester City remains fifth on the League Table, barely 10 points away from Liverpool who are at the top, while Manchester United retain their 13th spot.
