A video which has soon made rounds on the internet shows a woman, beating up and assaulting a road safety personnel in the Lekki unit command compound.
According to a statement signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, a Toyota Corolla car was flagged around 3:54 p.m along OKO-ADO Lekki Epe express way, Lagos State, by the FRSC team on patrol for seatbelt law violation.
On checking the vehicle for papers, the team discovered that the papers had expired since December 2022. Because of this, the car had to be impounded.
However, a woman who was actually a passenger in the car started making a scene on the road till they reached the Unit Command premises. The driver did not resist arrest, or challenge the FRSC personnel, it was the passenger woman that made things worse.

She held one of the personnel and started assaulting him, kicking and beating and raining abuses, saying she would injure him; from the point of arrest till the vehicle was finally compounded in the Unit Command premises.
The Road Safety staff exhibited a level of professionalism by not retaliating over the woman’s provocative actions, but just went about doing his job, which according to the video, was trying to deflate the vehicle’s tires.
None of the corps members present touched the lady, they instead advised their colleague to continue with removing the air from the tires, while he was being assaulted by the woman.
In the statement, the Unit Commander after all efforts to calm the woman bore no fruit, informed the Divisional Police Officer in Ajah Police Station, who responded swiftly by sending his men to arrest the lady and the driver for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Corps Marshal of the FRSC commended the Unit Commander and his men for the level of professionalism and civility they exhibited in handling the troublesome woman, and advised road users and motorists to refrain from taking laws into their hands, but take appropriate legal actions if they feel aggrieved.
Many have condemned the woman’s actions, pointing towards her lack of home training, while others thought the Road safety personnel should have defended himself rather than allow the woman assault him that way.

“You wrote this lengthy piece because, at last, you have something seemingly negative to talk about road users. Of course you always choose to ignore the countless provocations and disgraceful acts of your badly trained men.
That’s the same attitude your men display on their patrols. They only focus on roadworthy “clean” vehicles and ignore those rickety commercial vehicles that do not have papers.
If you talk about a hypocritical organisation without value, its you guys. You choose what to act on and ignore the ones that show case a total lack of discipline within your organisation.”
