The holidays season is here, and many people have planned their vacation with their families and loved ones.

At a time like this, we hear lots of sad incidences on the road. It has become a pattern that rolls whenever the time arrives.

Ember months. Churches host more prayer sessions, families become more prayerful, however, no one becomes more careful. Road users tend to become more reckless, and the travelers? They have their destination in-sight.

According to a report from The Punch, six travelers escaped death, after being rescued by some men of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

The report records two incidents. One was a crash between two container trucks that had brake failure, on Sunday around 10 a.m, at Apapa-Wharf route near Flour Mill, six kilometres from Mile 2.

Four persons were involved in the crash, one person was badly injured, the other three came out unscathed.

Another one is reported to have happened on November 25, along the Euro 65-Signal Barracks route at Mile 2 Oke. A 40-foot container truck collided with a Toyota Corolla saloon car, falling ontop the car and trapping two persons inside, who were soon rescued alive by some FRSC men.

The corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide revealed this on Monday, while passing on Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed message of commendation.

The corps spokesperson said that Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the FRSC team for their bravery professionalism, and promptness in rescuing the victims of the crash, noting that the corp members have acted according to the directives given them by the Corps Marshal.

“The Corps Marshal Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed has commended the efforts of FRSC Rescue and emergency response team for a rare demonstration of bravery, professionalism, and resilience after successfully rescuing six victims of road traffic crashes from a deadly containerised crash.

“The mileages achieved through these proactive approaches were recorded at the expense of Corps Marshal’s earlier directives to operatives to assert a high level of professionalism and promptness to rescue of crash victims as the end of the year travels gather momentum,” he said.

He also mentioned that Corps Marshal have charged drivers to maintain minimum safety standards and also advised fleet operators to ensure that their drivers have obtained adequate training on the basics of contemporary dynamics of safe road use.
