A Nigerian man says he received the beating of his life from his wife for telling her to stop playing music loudly.
The man during a podcast with Official Doyin revealed for the first time how he suffered from domestic violence in his marriage.
@officialdoyin shared the video on Instagram while explaining that domestic violence is not limited to one gender, but a human issue. That men just like women can also be victims of abuse. Yet they often suffer in silence due to societal expectations and stigma.
When asked if he has ever suffered domestic violence, the man answered in the affirmative and began sharing how it has been happening.
The man said, one day he returned from work, he was supposed to sleep after the days work, but the wife was playing loud music.
He said the wife did not play the music for the sake of listening to it, but she did it deliberately just to provoke the man.
On trying to snatch the phone from her to off the music after much of his pleading fell on deaf ears, he received the beating of his life that night.
The man went on to say that the wife has been abusing him, but he didn’t think of divorce because of the kids, he wanted to work things out. However, it was when the wife cheated twice that he decided upon divorce.
The wife according to him had slept with two pastors, which raises the question of married women’s relationships with their pastors.
The man also noted that the wife often apologized after every abuse, and blamed it on the devil, but the man was fine because he really loved her. He also advised men to be cautious of how they express their emotions towards women, as that was his own weakness.
He also spoke on how people saw him as a weak man for always letting his wife put him under, but his response has always been, “you are not in my shoes.”
