During a podcast session, the Nigerian comedian and actor, popularly known as comedian Okey Bakassi claims that polygamy is the best form of marriage for Africa.
He was talking about understanding women and a lot of other subjects surrounding women, including mood swings, and family inheritance in the Igbo tradition.
Okey Bakassi explained that monogamy which is of the western origin is not working in Africa.
He pointed out the difference between polygamy and monogamy, stating that, while polygamy allows a man to marry two wives at the same time, the same man, in monogamy, will have to let one go in order to marry another one.
But if the man does not want to let one go?
“Forget all the lip services that we pay to polygamy here. I still think that polygamy is the best form of marriage for Africa. Monogamy is not working. We are pretending.
“Now, what is the difference between polygamy and monogamy? Polygamy says you can marry two people at the same time. Monogamy says you cannot marry them at the same time, you have to let one go.
“What if you don’t want to let one go?” Okey said.
The video has sparked lots of reactions from internet users.
@EdmundOris said; “We’re the poorest continent in the world but yet we keep fighting to marry more than 1 wife and have uncountable children.
Most Africans can’t even take care of one wife you’re pushing for more.”
@KlasickTheHost also towed the same line; “Even country wey better pass Naija dem no dey do polygamy nonsense. But poor Nigerians thinking they are rich will always think whatever they say makes actual sense. Stupid poor people with stupid mentality and ignorance.
Many of them speak like this probably because they got heart broken someway and somehow. Lol”
@Luckyflows was more philosophical in his submission; “This is one truth women would pull their hair off before they’ll ever accept it, and that’s because men need to focus on making abundance resources before they start thinking of Polygamy… you no fit they manage come think say you’ll have a happy home having polygamy… women don’t mind sharing as long as you have enough resources to take care of them all comfortably! @wellsjnr99 referred to the Bible, saying; “One man, one wife, is what the bible says, and it’s a sin to go against the bible.
You guys are just looking for a way to be promiscuous without repercussions.”
@wellsjnr99 comment was met with several counter responses.
Okey Bakassi in the same podcast said women do not know what they want, and do not realize they don’t know what they want.
